Style Questions

Lets start off with some questions. These Q & A's come from GQ.com. "Style Guy" to be more exact. We try to answer all of your questions, however, we are not mind readers. If you have style questions, please email Dr Style Blog.

Q: I am a 30-year-old law student. Most of the people I go to school with are younger and wear sneakers or flip-flops, but I don’t feel those are right for me at my age. Any suggestions for smart everyday shoes?

A: Flip-flops? They must have been Romney supporters! (Just kidding.) Clarks Wallabees are cool for class, with chinos or jeans, but a man needs a choice of shoes, and feet appreciate variety. You should also own a pair of loafers and some lace-ups; the latter will prepare you for litigation. When trying a capital case, always wear black shoes.

Q: I don’t know jack about rugby, but I do like the look of rugby shirts, and they seem to be in fashion. What are your thoughts on how to wear one well?

A: I don’t really know all that much about it, either, but as the New York Jets’ season has unraveled, as the Yankees have come apart at the seams, and as the Knicks continue their downward spiral into uncharted ignominy, I have been thinking more and more about rugby, a noble and pure sport. By the time the next World Cup comes around, I’ll be ready. The shirts are good, too. Tough fabric makes them excellent for falling down in, and the rubber buttons make it less likely you’ll take somebody’s eye out in the scrum. You can find a great selection at www.americanrugby.com. The resourceful Mr. Lauren offers some nice vintagey-looking shirts, too, and you can even order and customize them online (www.rugby.com). How do you wear one well? Don’t wear it with a suit.
